The Office of the President, National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Headquarters, has officially opened submissions for the July Edition of the NANS Monthly Essay Writing Competition.

This initiative aims to foster intellectual engagement, critical thinking, and constructive national discourse among undergraduates in tertiary institutions across the country.

Submissions for this edition must address the topic:

"Building a Technology-Driven Nation: The Role of Students in Innovation and National Development."

Eligibility and Submission Guidelines

To ensure a fair evaluation process, all applicants must strictly adhere to the following guidelines:

  1. Eligibility: Open to all undergraduate students currently enrolled in Nigerian tertiary institutions.
  2. Word Count: Essays must be between 1,200 and 1,500 words.
  3. Language & Format: Must be written in English and submitted in PDF or Word format.
  4. Cover Page Requirements: Every entry must include a cover page containing the following details:
  5. Full Name
  6. University & Department
  7. Level / Year of Study
  8. Phone Number
  9. Email Address
  10. Matriculation Number
  11. Plagiarism Policy: All essays must be 100% original. Any plagiarized submission will result in immediate disqualification.

Cash Prizes and Judging Criteria

NANS will reward top-performing entries with cash prizes and recognition:

  1. 1st Place: ₦200,000
  2. 2nd Place: ₦100,000
  3. 3rd Place: ₦50,000
  4. Consolatory Prizes: Awarded to other outstanding participants.

Evaluation Criteria

Essays will be independently assessed by the judging panel based on:

  1. Originality & Creativity
  2. Clarity of Expression
  3. Relevance to the Topic
  4. Structure & Organization
  5. Grammar and Style
