The BABTEE-led National Administration of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has been officially inaugurated, ushering in what the association describes as The Blessed Era and setting a new agenda focused on student welfare, institutional accountability, and reforms across Nigeria's tertiary education sector.

The inauguration ceremony, held in Abuja, witnessed the formal swearing-in of the National President, Dist. Hon. Comr. Akinteye Babatunde Afeez (BABTEE), alongside members of the newly constituted National Executive Council (NEC). The event attracted student leaders, government representatives, education stakeholders, alumni, and invited guests from across the country.

In his inaugural address, President BABTEE reaffirmed the administration's commitment to restoring confidence in NANS through purposeful leadership, transparent governance, and unwavering advocacy for the rights and welfare of Nigerian students.

A major highlight of the inauguration was the association's declaration of a national emergency over the deplorable condition of student hostels in many tertiary institutions across Nigeria. NANS described the state of accommodation in several institutions as unacceptable, noting that inadequate and unsafe hostel facilities continue to negatively affect students' health, security, and academic performance.

The association called on the Federal Government, state governments, governing councils, and management of tertiary institutions to urgently prioritize the rehabilitation of existing hostels and the development of additional accommodation that meets acceptable standards for students.

NANS also announced a renewed campaign against corrupt practices in tertiary institutions, pledging to work with relevant authorities and stakeholders to promote transparency, accountability, and integrity within the education system. The association emphasized that practices that undermine students' welfare, academic excellence, and institutional credibility would continue to receive its attention through constructive engagement and advocacy.

Speaking at the ceremony, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by his Senior Special Assistant on Student Engagement, Comrade Sunday Asefon, congratulated the newly inaugurated leadership and urged the association to embrace constructive criticism as a catalyst for strengthening Nigeria's education sector. He encouraged the new administration to remain responsible, solution-driven, and committed to collaborating with government and other stakeholders in advancing policies that benefit Nigerian students.

The inauguration marks the official commencement of the BABTEE-led administration, with high expectations from students across the federation for impactful leadership, improved welfare, stronger advocacy, and meaningful reforms within tertiary institutions.

As The Blessed Era begins, the new leadership has pledged to uphold the ideals of unity, service, accountability, and progress while ensuring that the voice of Nigerian students remains strong, respected, and influential in national discourse.
